Abigail's Birth - A Peaceful Labor and Delivery

The Monday before Abby made her grand entrance earth side, I had my last midwife appointment. It was at 4pm and I was dilated about 2 cm and about 90% effaced. I was 39 weeks and 1 day along and we decided to strip my membranes. This pregnancy was more difficult on my body and I was ready! My body was too apparently. I left the office close to 5 pm and had 2 contractions on the drive to get my daughter, Imogene, from daycare. It was a 10 minute drive.

By the time we got home, I’d had a couple more contractions. They kept coming regularly about every 5 for a few hours. Shane got home from work around 7:30 and by that time I was confident we’d be having our little Abigail that night or the next day, so his sister came and got Immie for her 2 day slumber party. She was excited about that. I called our doula, Althea, around 9:30 and she headed over to our house. By the time she got there, I was ready to go to the hospital. I have to say…even though I was in quite a bit of pain, I was not having panic attacks. This was quite a difference from my labor with Imogene, during which I had several panic attacks. I just wasn’t scared this time…of having a baby, or of the pain. I credit this difference with a few things: being a 2nd time mom, having an awesome doula, and hypnobirthing. I already knew I could birth a baby, and I was able to work through each contraction with the techniques I learned in hypnobirthing. Having Althea there by our side was calming to both me and Shane.

Allied Women Entrepreneurs Launch Party

In my last post I talked about the big changes in my life. Well, just 2 days after that post I brought my beautiful Abigail into the world! She's wonderful and exhausting and wonderful, and I'll share more on my newest little girl later. Now I want to share Allied Women Entrepreneurs (AWE). We've worked really hard to get this little 501(c)3 non-profit going and we're ready to launch!

Myself and 4 other bright, dedicated, enthusiastic women have spent countless hours, days and nights deliberating about what we wanted in a non-profit business related organization. Although we all have very different areas of business, we all have one thing in common. We are women!
We believe all women entrepreneurs deserve affordable access to education and support as they aspire to personal and professional success." - Allied Women Entrepreneurs
The business world is framed within a male dominated culture, and women have had to break many barriers to become successful. When women come together and form a community....the setting is set for learning from, engaging with, and uplifting one another. We've come together, and we are creating that community!

AWE's Mission:
AWE’s mission is to empower women to reach their professional goals as entrepreneurs through education, networking, mentoring, and business development.
To celebrate our achievement and introduce AWE to the Northern Colorado community, we will be hosting a party at the Fort Collins Brewery on Wednesday, April 22nd, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Thanks to our many sponsors, and especially our Title Sponsor, the Women's Clinic of Northern Colorado for their support of AWE's mission. Of course, without the insight, collaboration and zealous attitude of my fellow board members, none of this would be possible.

AWE Founding Members
From left to right: Amber Hinds, Carolyn Spranger, Dani Stringer, Darcy Peters, Melinda Walker
We are all very excited about this journey we've begun. I invite you to check out the organization and learn what we're all about. AWE's vision is impressive, and it's going to be amazing in action!

Growth and Transition: Life is in Full Force for Dani Sue Dreams!

You may have noticed that I've changed some things around. I started this blog in 2012, shortly after my daughter was born. It started out as mommy review/craft/recipe blog and it's been a great journey. This little adventure in the mommy blogosphere has certainly helped me grow as a parent, a blogger, and personally...and I am so grateful.

It's now February 2015 and I am due with baby girl #2 any day now! In the past 2 years, my husband has started a successful, brick and mortar retail shop in Fort Collins. Colorado Vapors - Northern Colorado's Premier E-Cigarette Shop is growing strong and helping people in the community quit smoking. I'm proud of Shane, and proud to be part of local commerce. Very soon we will be unvailing our online retail shop and blog. Stay in touch with us on Facebook.

Colorado Vapors in the news!
I'm also super excited to be a founding member of an amazing new 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Northern Colorado. Allied Women Entrepreneurs was founded by 5 local, entrepreneurial mamas (myself included). We hail from various industries and bring with us a passion to empower women in our community to reach their entrepreneurial goals and potential. I'll be talking about this more in the very near future. In the mean time, you can follow us on Facebook to stay up to date with what we're doing.

How AWEsome are these business cards?!
So what's in store for Dani Sue Dreams? Well, you'll see that I've changed the title a little. It's now Dani Sue Dreams in the Front Range - A Northern Colorado Blog. I will still be reviewing products that are useful for all us mamas, but they will be from local Front Range businesses. I will still keep sharing my recipes and DIY I have time...I'll be figuring out how all you moms with more than 1 kiddo balance life! I'll be focusing on community events and happenings in the Northern Colorado Front Range, and I'll be posting about topics that relate to parents, but with a focus on topics unique to Colorado. I hope you'll continue following my blog on its new adventure!
